Surface Palpation - Head and Neck - Bones
Mandible
Sitting or standing (or supine if necessary or convenient)

Anterior or anterolateral to the patient

Please sit (or stand). May I touch your jaw bone?
(If the answer is yes) I will gently move my fingers along your jaw (or demonstrate touching the bone).
(If the answer is no) I will just look at your jaw.
Ask the patient/client if you may touch the mandible.
If the answer is yes, place one or two fingers on the body of the mandible and then move your fingers posteriorly until you outline the angle of the mandible with a finger, usually the index finger and the thumb.
If the answer is no, inspect the area visually.

The videos demonstrate palpation along the body of the mandible with the fingers and then palpation on the angle of the mandible with the index finger and the thumb.
