Turn the cadaver to the prone position.
(ON BOTH SIDES) Remove any skin and superficial fascia that may still remain covering the upper portion of the trapezius muscle. (G 1.24;N 171;Gl 3.1)
- (ON BOTH SIDES) Blunt dissect (use pointed scissors) through the investing fascia approximately 4 cm lateral to the midline and 1 cm inferior to the level of the external occipital protuberance, (approximately at the level of the external auditory meatus), and identify the occipital artery and greater occipital nerve. (G 1.24;N 175;Gl 45.36) Do not spend more than 10-15 minutes looking for these structures.
