Identify and sever the superior and inferior fibular (peroneal) retinacula to expose the tendons of the fibularis (peroneus) longus and brevis muscles. (G 6.63B;N 506;Gl 33.18C)
- Identify the tendons of the fibularis (peroneus) longus and brevis muscles. Trace the tendons proximally and remove the deep fascia from the fibularis (peroneus) longus and brevis muscles. (G 6.62B; N 506;Gl 32.21B)
- Trace the tendon of the fibularis (peroneus) brevis muscle to its distal attachment to the lateral base of the 5th metatarsal. (G 6.63B;N 506;Gl 32.21B)
- Trace the tendon of the fibularis (peroneus) longus muscle distally until it disappears into the plantar aspect of the foot.
Important Relationships
- The tendon of the peroneus (fibularis) brevis muscle passes posterior to the fibula (lateral malleolus).
- The tendon of the peroneus (fibularis) longus muscle passes posterior to the fibula (lateral malleolus).
