Identify and clean the branches of the femoral nerve. (G 6.18A;N 487;Gl 34.34)

  1. Identify one of the small nerve branches entering the sartorius along its medial border.
  2. Use blunt dissection to trace the nerve back to the femoral nerve. The femoral nerve will be located immediately lateral to a thick rope like structure, the femoral sheath (surrounding the femoral artery and vein).
  3. Clean the femoral nerve and trace its branches distally to the quadriceps muscles.
Important Relationships

The femoral nerve passes anterior to the hip joint and posterior (deep) to the inguinal ligament.
