1. Identify and clean the gluteus maximus muscle. (G 6.28B;N 482;Gl 31.14) Blunt dissect under the muscle, cut its proximal attachments, and reflect it laterally.
  2. Identify and clean the gluteus medius muscle. (G 6.28C;N 482;Gl 31.14) Section the muscle approximately 4 cm superior to the greater trochanter and remove the proximal portion of the muscle.
  3. Identify and clean the gluteus minimis muscle. (G 6.28D;N 482;Gl 31.14) Section the muscle approximatey 2 cm superior to the greater trochanter and remove the proximal portion of the muscle.
  4. Identify and clean the piriformis. (G 6.32A;N 490;Gl 31.14) Section the muscle approximately 2 cm promimal to its distal attachment.
  5. Identify and clean the obturator internus tendon and gemelli muscles. (G 6.32A;N 490;Gl 31.14) Section the tendon approximately 2 cm proximal to it distal attachment.
  6. Identify and clean the quadratus femoris muscle. (G 6.33A;N 490;Gl 31.14) Section the muscle midway between its two attachments. Reflect the quadratus femoris to fully expose (identify) the obturator externus tendon attaching to the greater trochanter. (G 6.33C;N 480;Gl 31.15)
  7. Reflect the piriformis, obturator internus (and gemelli) and sciatic nerve, and clean the posterior joint capsule  and ischiofemoral ligament. (G 6.36C;N 474;Gl 31.8)
