Identify and clean the popliteal artery and its branches. (G 6.43;N 499;Gl 34.1B) Clarify the dissection field by removing the popliteal vein and its tributaries.
- Identify the superior lateral and medial genicular arteries. These arteries typically arise at the level of the proximal attachments of the gastrocnemius muscle.
- Identify the lateral and medial sural arteries entering the two heads of the gastrocnemius muscle.
- Identify the inferior lateral and medial genicular arteries. These arteries typically arise at the level of the proximal attachment of the soleus muscle.
- Identify the origin of the anterior tibial artery.

- The popliteal artery is positioned posterior to the knee joint.
