(ON BOTH SIDES) Identify the pelvic diaphragm.
- Identify the internal fascia of the obturator internus muscle. (G 5.10;N 338;Gl 19.13C) Identify the tendinous arch and pelvic diaphragm (levator ani muscle) arising from the obturator fascia. Attempt to identify the coccygeus muscle. Explore the extent of the pelvic diaphragm. Place one hand on the superior surface of the pelvic diaphragm and the second hand inferior to the pelvic diaphragm (in the ischiorectal fossa near the anus).
Important Relationship
The pelvic diaphragm (levator ani muscle) is positioned medial to the obturator internus muscle.
