- Identify thetransversus thoracis muscle adjacent to the sternum.
- Identify the internal thoracic artery and vein and at least one anterior intercostal artery and vein.
Important Relationship
The internal thoracic artery is positioned posterior (deep) to the first six costal cartilages.
