Identify and clean the extensor retinaculum superficial to the tendons of the posterior compartment muscles. (G 2.84A;N 430;Gl 28.47)
- Use scissors to make a cut (proximal to distal) through the extensor retinaculum in line with the third digit. Reflect the extensor retinaculum towards the medial (ulnar) side of the wrist.
- Separate the tendons deep to the retinaculum and trace them proximally to their muscle bellies in the forearm. Attempt to remove the deep fascia from the muscle bellies but stop if the muscles shread.
- Identify the four tendons of the extensor digitorum muscle. (G 2.84A and 2.86B;N 430;Gl 26.19A) Trace the tendon for the index finger to the dorsal expansion. (G 2.87A;N 464;Gl 27.21)
- Identify the tendon and belly of the extensor digiti minimi muscle. (G 2.84A;N 430;Gl 26.19A)
- Identify the tendon and belly of the extensor carpi ulnaris muscle. (G 2.84A;N 430;Gl 26.19A)
