1. Identify, clean and reflect the pectoralis major muscle to its humeral attachment. (G 2.20;N 409;Gl 25.18A)
  2. Identify, clean and reflect the pectoralis minor muscle to its scapular attachment. (G 2.26;N 412;Gl 25.18B)
  3. Identify, clean and reflect the deltoid muscle from the clavicle and anterior acromion. (G 2.20;N 409;Gl 25.18A) Leave the humeral attachment intact.
  4. Identify and clean the short head of the biceps brachii and coracobrachialis muscles. (G 2.28;N 417;Gl 25.18B) Transect both muscles 5 cm inferior to the coracoid process and reflect in the superior direction.
  5. Identify and clean the long head of the biceps brachii muscle. (G 2.37;N 417;Gl 25.18B) Trace (open transverse humeral ligament and joint capsule) its tendon to its scapular attachment. (G 2.46A;N 408;Gl 25.19C)
  6. Identify and carefully clean the coracoacromial and coracoclavicular ligaments. (G 2.44A;N 408;Gl 25.13A)
  7. Clean the axilla to expose the subscapularis muscle. (G 2.27;N 413;Gl 25.19A) Remove vessels and nerves as needed.
  8. Make a vertical cut through the subscapularis approximately 5 cm medial to its humeral attachment. Reflect the distal portion of the muscle laterally to expose the joint capsule and glenohumeral ligaments.  (G 2.46A;N 408;Gl 25.13A) Clean the joint capsule and ligaments.
  9. Make a vertical incision in the joint capsule to expose the glenoid labrum and head of the humerus. (G 2.47;N 408;Gl 25.16)
