Identify and clean the latissimus dorsi muscle. (G 4.31;N 168;Gl 3.1)

  1. Remove the deep fascia and any remaining fat. Note that a broad aponeurosis attaches the muscle to the spinous processes and iliac crest.
  2. Use your fingers to free the superior border of the latissimus dorsi muscle from the underlying fascia. You may need to use scissors to detach the muscle from the inferior angle of the scapula.
  3. Starting at its superior border, use scissors to detach the latissimus dorsi from the spinous processes and iliac crest by cutting its aponeurosis. Reflect the muscle laterally.
