Use the anterior approach to dissect and identify the anterior structures of the orbit.
- (ON THE SIDE WITH THE BRAIN) Detach and blunt dissect deep to the superior, medial and inferior portions of the orbicularis oculi muscle. Reflect the muscle in the lateral direction. Identify the orbital septum, superior tarsal plate and medial palpebral ligament. (G 7.15;N 81;Gl 35.10) Attempt to identify the lacrimal sac .
- (ON THE SIDE WITH THE BRAIN) Use small sharp scissors to cut the medial palpebral ligament and the superior, medial and inferior attachments of the orbital septum. Cut the conjunctiva where it reflects from the superior and inferior palpebrae to the sclera of the eye. Cut the levator palpebrae superioris and reflect the tarsal plates and orbital septum in the lateral direction . (G 7.15;N 81;Gl 35.10)
- (ON THE SIDE WITH THE BRAIN) Identify the lacrimal gland and trochlea. (G 7.15;N 82;Gl 35.5)
