Identify, clean and reflect the temporalis muscle. (G 7.41B;N 54; Gl 32.11)
- (ON THE RIGHT SIDE ONLY) Remove the temporalis fascia from the temporalis muscle.
- (ON THE RIGHT SIDE ONLY) Use the electric saw to cut (cut 3) the coronoid process even with the inferior limit of the mandibular notch.
- (ON THE RIGHT SIDE ONLY) Use blunt dissection along the deep surface of the temporalis muscle to reflect the muscle and attached coronoid process in the superior direction.
- (ON THE RIGHT SIDE ONLY) Identify the deep temporal nerves and arteries entering the deep surface of the temporalis muscle. (G 7.42A and B;N 39; Gl 34.24)
Important Relationship
- The temporalis muscle passes medial (deep) to the zygomatic arch.
