Identify the subdivisions of the pharynx and the muscles of the pharyngeal wall.
- Identify the nasal pharynx, oral pharynx and laryngeal pharynx. (G 8.24;N 63;Gl 38.29)
- Identify the superior, middle and inferior constrictors. (G 8.23B;N 67;Gl 38.30) Use the greater horn of the hyoid bone to assist you in identifying the level of the middle constrictor. The superior constrictor is continuous with the buccinator muscles.
- Identify the stylopharyngeus muscle and glossopharyngeal nerve (adjacent to the stylopharyngeus muscle). (G 8.23B;N 67 and 71;Gl 38.31) Attempt to identify the pharyngeal branches of the vagus nerve.
