(ON BOTH SIDES) Separate the superficial muscles of the anterior compartment of the forearm. (G 6.57B;N 434;Gl 24.37A)

  1. Use scissors to split (from proximal to distal) the deep fascia overlying the anterior compartment muscles. Separate the superficial muscles from each other ( flexor carpi ulnaris, palmaris longus, flexor carpi radialis, pronator teres and flexor digitorum superficialis).
  2. Identify the radial artery lateral to the flexor carpi radialis muscle. (G-6.58B; N- 435; Gl- 24.37C)
  3. Identify the ulnar nerve and artery deep to the flexor carpi ulnaris muscle,
  4. Identify the median nerve deep to the flexor digitorum superficialis muscle. The median nerve may be adhering to the deep fascia of the flexor digitorum superficialis muscle.
