Identify and clean the cephalic vein, and pectoralis minor muscle. (G 6.18 and 6.24;N 416;Gl 24.34)
- Identify the pectoralis minor muscle attaching to ribs 3-5 and the coracoid process.
- Trace (clean) the cephalic vein (it passes superficial to the superior aspect of the pectoralis minor muscle) to where it empties into the axillary vein. Cut the cephalic vein at the level of the deltiod tuberosity and remove the distal portion of this vein. Leave the proximal portion of the cephalic vein attached to the axillary vein.
- Remove the fascia (clavipectoral) from the pectoralis minor muscle.
Important Relationship
The pectoralis minor muscle is positioned posterior (deep) to the pectoralis major muscle.
