Review the trapezius muscle (G 6.29;N 171;Gl 21.28) from the first dissection exercise.
- Look for the accessory nerve coursing along the deep surface of the trapezius typically 3-5 cm from the medial border of the muscle. (G 4.31;N 171;Gl 24.29) The accompanying artery is the superficial branch of the transverse cervical artery.
Important Relationship
- The trapezius muscle is positioned posterior (superficial) to the rhomboid muscle.
- The accessory nerve is positioned directly anterior (deep) to the trapezius muscle.
- The superficial branch of the transverse cervical artery is positioned directly anterior (deep) to the trapezius muscle.
