  • Action: Abducts the thumb at the carpometacarpal joint
• Adductor Pollicis

    • 1: Capitate and 2nd & 3rd metacarpals
    • 2: Proximal phalanx of thumb
  • Innervation: Ulnar nerve (C8, T1)
  • Arterial supply: Palmar arterial arch
  • Action: Adducts the thumb
• Flexor Digiti Minimi Brevis
  • Bony Attachments:
    • 1: Hamate the flexor retinaculum
    • 2: Proximal phalanx of the 5th digit
  • Innervation: Ulnar nerve
  • Arterial supply: Ulnar artery
  • Action: Flexes the carpometacarpal and metacarpophalangeal joints on the 5th digit
• Opponens Digiti Minimi
  • Bony Attachments:
    • 1: Hamate and flexor retinaculum
    • 2: 5th metacarpal
  • Innervation: Ulnar nerve (C8, T1)
  • Arterial supply: Ulnar artery
  • Action: Opposes 5th digit to thumb
• Opponens Pollicis
  • Bony Attachments:
    • 1: Trapezium, flexor retinaculum
    • 2: 1st metacarpal
  • Innervation: Median nerve (C8, T1)
  • Arterial supply: Radial artery
  • Action: Opposes the thumb to other digits
• Palmaris Brevis
  • Bony Attachments:
    • 1: Fascia over lying the hypothenar eminence
    • 2: Skin of the palm & palmar aponeurosis
  • Innervation: Ulnar nerve (C8, T1)
  • Arterial supply: Ulnar artery
  • Action: Draws the skin on the ulnar side of the hand to the palm
• Interosseous Dorsal
  • Bony Attachments:
    • 1: Metacarpal shafts on both sides
    • 2: Proximal phalanx and extensor expansion
  • Innervation: Ulnar nerve (C8, T1)
  • Arterial supply: Dorsal and palmar metacarpal arteries
  • Action: Abducts digits 2-4, assists lumbricals with flexing metacarpophalangeal joints, extends interphalangeal joints
• Palmar Interosseous
  • Bony Attachments:
    • 1: Palmar side metacarpals of digits 2, 4 and 5
    • 2: Proximal phalanx and extensor expansion
  • Innervation: Ulnar nerve (C8, T1)
  • Arterial supply: Dorsal and palmar metacarpal arteries
  • Action: Adducts digits 2, 4, & 5, assists lumbricals with flexing metacarpophalangeal joints, extends interphalangeal joints
• Lumbrical
  • Bony Attachments:
    • 1: Flexor digitorum profundus tendons
    • 2: Lateral side of extensor expansion for digits 2-5
  • Innervation: Dual Innervation - Median nerve (1st & 2nd) and ulnar nerve (3rd & 4th)
  • Arterial supply: Palmar artery
  • Action: Flexes metacarpophalangeal joints, extends interphalangeal joints for digits 2-5
• Flexor Pollicis Brevis
  • Bony Attachments:
    • 1: (Superficial head & deep head) Flexor retinaculum, scaphoid, trapezium
    • 2: Proximal phalanx of the thumb
  • Innervation: Median n. (recurrent branch)
