Painful Shoulder

  1. Upper Limb Appendicular Skeleton

Use the 3D model and cross sections to look at the bones of the upper limb appendicular skeleton. Identify each bone and palpate them on yourself or a partner.

  2. Dorsal Scapular Region

Using the 3D model and cross sections, explore this area. What is the quadrangular space and triangle of auscultation? What muscles create the boundaries of these spaces?

  3. Posterior Compartment of the Arm

What muscles make up the posterior compartment of the arm? Can you trace any nervous or blood supply into this compartment? Identify the locations the three tendons of the tricep brachii attach proximally.

  4. Superficial & Deep Back Musculature

Explore each muscle in the 3D model and take note of their attachment points. What movements do you think are produced based on these attachments? Check your answers with you peers and/or by looking the motions up. Don't forget to note the nervous and blood supply to each muscle.

  5. Deep Back Musculature

What is the main action of the deep back musculature? What type of muscle fibers do you think they contain? Use the 3D model and the cross sections to identify the muscles from deep to superficial.
