Surface Palpation - Elbow, Wrist, and Hand - Joints and Joint Motions
Elbow Joint
Standing, sitting, or lying supine

Anterior, lateral or posterior to the patient.

May I touch your elbow? ( or point to the demonstrated area ) Please bend and straighten your elbow (or demonstrate).
The elbow joint is composed of the articulation between the trochlea of the humerus with the ulna, and the capitulum of the humerus with the head of the radius. With the patient relaxed, gently place the fingers on the medial epicondyle and lateral epicondyle of the humerus and on the ulnar olecranon process and proximal radius. Feel motion at these joints as the patient is guided to flex and extend the elbow.
VH - close up of the elbow skeleton, no muscles
