Standing, sitting, or lying supine
Roll up sleeves to expose the arm.
Anterior to the patient.
May I touch your arm? ( or point to the demonstrated area ).
Relax while I position and support your arm. I will be gently pressing to feel a pulse in your arm.
Guide the patient to bend the elbow and supinate and then allow the upper limb to be supported. Guide the patient to relax. Gently press your fingers into the fleshy mass on the medial distal arm just medial to the tendon of the biceps brachii. With no pulse detected, try the same technique more proximally from that point on the arm or on the lateral distal arm
just lateral to the tendon of the biceps brachii. Compare to the other side with difficulty palpating the pulse.
