Surface Palpation - Head and Neck - Bones
Zygomatic Arch
Sitting or standing (or supine if necessary or convenient)

Anterior to the patient

Please sit (or stand). May I touch a bone in your cheek?
(If the answer is yes) I will gently place my fingers on this area (or demonstrate touching the bone).
(If the answer is no) I will just look at your cheek.
Ask the patient/client if you may touch the side of the face.
If the answer is yes, place one or two fingers on the prominent horizontal area of the zygomatic arch in the mid-cheek region. This part of the temporal bone gives shape to the cheek.
If the answer is no, inspect the cheek area visually.
