Dorsum of the Foot

The dorsum of the foot is the site for distal attachments of the dorsi flexors, found in the anterior compartment of the leg. The dorsum of the foot has only one small extensor digitorum brevis muscle.

The superficial peroneal nerve provides the dorsum of the foot with most of its sensory needs, while the deep peroneal nerve is motor to the single dorsal muscle.

The anterior tibial artery becomes the dorsal pedis artery at the talocrural joint and supplies the dorsum of the foot with arterial blood.
