Surface Palpation - Elbow, Wrist, and Hand - Muscles
Bicipital Aponeurosis
(This structure is not yet classified in the VH Dissector)
Standing or sitting or lying supine
Roll up sleeves to expose the distal anterior arm.
Anterior to the patient.

May I touch the front of your elbow? ( or point to the demonstrated area ). Please bend your elbow and turn your palm up. Now hold in this position while I push on your forearm.
Guide the patient to bend the elbow and supinate. Support the forearm, so that the muscles relax. With the patientís upper limb relaxed, place the fingers distal and medial to the distal tendon of the biceps brachii. Release support while asking the patient to hold this position. You may be able to palpate the bicipital aponeurosis as a thick fascial sheath extending distally and medially from the tendon to the deep fascia of the forearm. If needed, provide gradually increasing resistance by having the patient ìholdî while you gradually produce a push on the forearm in the direction of elbow extension.
