Triceps Brachii Lateral Head
Standing, sitting or lying prone
For women, a gown over the non-examined side with the examined area exposed or a halter top is recommended. At least roll up sleeves on a short sleeved shirt. For men, removal of the shirt is requested.
Posterior or lateral to the patient.

May I touch your shoulder? ( or point to the demonstrated area ). Please bend your elbow (or demonstrate). Now hold in this position while I push on your forearm.
With the patient relaxed, place one or several fingers on the lateral proximal area of the posterior arm. Guide the patient to hold the elbow in this position while you provide a gradually increasing push on the forearm in the direction of elbow flexion. The lateral head of the triceps often is observed and palpated as more of a prominent muscle bulge than the other heads of this muscle.
