Identify the nerves and arteries associated with the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses.
- Identify the nasal branches of the sphenopalatine artery where they traverse the sphenopalatine foramen. (G 7.72;N 40;Gl 42.7)
- Identify the greater palatine artery and nerve. (G 7.75A;N 39;Gl 42.8B)
- Identify the
infraorbital artery and nerve in the roof of the maxillary sinus. (G 7.79C;Gl 44.15) Attempt to identify the
anterior superior alveolar and
middle superior alveolar nerves in the wall of the maxillary sinus.
Important Relationship
- The infraorbital artery and nerve pass directly superior to the maxillary sinus.
- Attempt to identify the pterygopalatine ganglion (swelling of the greater palatine nerve immediately posterior to the sphenopalatine artery at the sphnopalatine foramen). (G 7.63C;N 39;Gl 42.8B) Attempt to identify the nerve of the pterygoid canal. The nerve of the pterygoid canal is often surrounded by a ridge of bone in the floor of the sphenoid sinus.
