1. Identify and clean (including the retinaculum) the tibialis anterior, extensor hallucis longus, extensor digitorum longus and fibularis (peroneus) tertius muscles and tendons from a mid-calf level to the level of the base of the 5th metatarsal. (G 6.60B;N 507;Gl 32.18)
  2. Blunt dissect deep to the fibularis (peroneus) tertius muscle to expose the interosseous membrane.  (G 6.63B;N 514;Gl 33.11A) Identify and clean the anterior tibiofibular and lateral collateral (anterior talofibular) ligaments.
  3. Identify and clean (including the fibular (peroneal) retinaculae) the fibularis (peroneus) longus and brevis muscles and tendons from a mid-calf level to the base of the 5th metatarsal. (G 6.62C;N 506;Gl 32.21B)
  4. Identify and clean (remove a portion of the fibular (peroneal) fibrous tunnel) the lateral collateral (calcaneofibular) ligament  by displacing the fibularis (peroneus) longus and brevis tendons at the lateral malleolus. (G 6.63B;N 514;Gl 33.11D)
  5. Blunt dissect deep to the fibularis (peroneus) brevis muscle and adjacent flexor hallucis longus muscle to expose the interosseous membrane. Identify and clean the posterior tibiofibular and lateral collateral (posterior talofibular) ligaments.  (G 6.79A;N 513;Gl 33.11B)
  6. Open the joint capsule to expose the talus and calcaneus. (G 6.79A;N 513;Gl 33.11B)
