- Identify and remove the abductor hallucis muscle. Leave approximately 2 cm of muscle at the proximal and distal attachments. (G 6.74C;N 520;Gl 32.22)
- Identify and clean the tendons of the tibialis posterior, flexor digitorum longus and flexor hallucis longus muscles at the medial malleolus. (G 6.68A;N 505;Gl 32.22)
- Cut the tendon of the tibialis posterior muscle at the same level as the flexor digitorum longus muscle. Displace the tendon to expose (identify) the medial collateral (deltoid) ligament. Clean the deltoid ligament by removing a portion of the fibrous sheaths of the tibialis posterior and flexor digitorum longus tendons. (G 6.80A;N 516;Gl 33.11C)
- Open the joint capsule lateral to the medial collateral (deltoid) ligament to expose the talus. (G 6.78A;N 514;Gl 33.11A)
