1. Identify, trace distally and clean the tendons of the flexor hallucis longus and flexor digitorum longus while removing all superficial structures (plantar aponeurosis, flexor digitorum brevis, flexor hallucis brevis, quadratus plantae, and plantar nerves and vessels). (G 6.75C;N 520 and 521;Gl 33.15B) Remove the flexor digitorum longus tendons to digits 3-5.
  2. Identify and clean the proximal and distal portions of the fibularis (peroneus) longus tendon by removing a portion of the adductor hallucis, abductor digiti minimi and flexor digiti minimi brevis muscles. (G 6.77C; N- 515; Gl 33.22B) Identify and leave the long plantar ligament  covering the intermediate portion of the peroneous longus tendon.
  3. Clean the long plantar ligament. (G 6.91A;N 515;Gl 33.22B)
  4. Cut the tendon of the flexor digitorum longus 2 cm proximal to the medial malleolus. Displace the tendons of the flexor digitorum longus and flexor hallucis muscles medially and identify and clean the plantar calcaneonavicular (spring) ligament and distal attachments of the tibialis posterior tendon. (G 6.91A;N 515;Gl 33.9)
