Remove the skin and most of the superficial fascia from the anterior thigh and proximal leg along the following (approximate) lines.

  1. From anterior superior iliac spine to a point 3 cm lateral to the pubic tubercle (STAY SUPERFICIAL AND DO NOT DAMAGE THE INGUINAL LIGAMENT  OR SPERMATIC CORD), then in the posterior direction carry the incision lateral to the scrotum or labia majora to a point approximately 5 cm lateral to the perineal body (the landmark between the anus and vagina)
  2. From anterior superior iliac spine to a point approximately 10 cm inferior to the lateral condyle of the tibia
  3. From the pubic tubercle to a point approximately 10 cm inferior to the medial condyle of the tibia
  4. Connect the two incisions across the anterior aspect of the leg.
  5. Do not remove the superficial fascia overlying the femoral triangle (G 6.18A;N 487;Gl 34.29). Attempt to identify the cutaneous nerve branches of the anterior and medial thigh.
