Identify and clean the great saphenous vein, superficial inguinal lymph nodes, and lateral femoral cutaneous nerve. (G 6.14A;N 470;Gl 34.26)

  1. Blunt dissect through the superficial fascia to locate the great saphenous vein. This vein traverses the saphenous opening (an opening in the fascia lata) and drains into the femoral vein.
  2. Attempt to identify the superficial inguinal lymph nodes  clustered around the great saphenous vein at the saphenous opening.
  3. Identify the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve approximately 3 cm medial to the anterior superior iliac spine at the inguinal ligament.
