  1. Identify the soleus muscle.
  2. Identify the popliteus muscle. (G 6.53B;N 505;Gl 32.20B) This muscle is located deep within the lateral aspect of the popliteal fossa and is covered with deep fascia. The inferior lateral genicular artery often crosses this muscle.
  3. Identify the branches of the tibial nerve to the soleus muscle.
