- Identify the teres major muscle.
- Identify the long head of the triceps brachii muscle.
- Observe the quadrangular space bordered by the teres minor, long head of the triceps brachii and teres major muscles, and the shaft of the humerus. Observe the axillary nerve and posterior circumflex humeral artery traversing this space.
- Observe the triangular space bordered by the teres minor, teres major and long head of the triceps muscles. Attempt to identify the circumflex scapular artery traversing this space.
Important Relationship
The circumflex scapular artery passes inferior and lateral to the teres minor muscle (traverses the triangular space).
