Dorsum of the Foot

• Extensor Digitorum Brevis
  • Bony Attachments:
    • 1. Dorsal calcaneus, inferior retinaculum
    • 2. Toes 2-5 via extensor expansion of sheath, base of proximal phalanx with tendons of extensor digitorum longus
  • Innervation: Deep peroneal or fibular nerve (L5, S1)
  • Arterial Supply: Dorsalis pedis artery
  • Action: Assists in extending toes 2-5
• Extensor Hallucis Brevis
  • Bony Attachments:
    • 1. Dorsal calcaneus (with extensor digitorum brevis)
    • 2. Extensor expansion sheath, base of proximal phalanx (big toe)
  • Innervation: Deep peroneal or fibular nerve (L5, S1)
  • Arterial Supply: Dorsalis pedis artery
  • Action: Extends the big toe (hallux)
