Surface Palpation - Elbow, Wrist, and Hand - Bones
Pisiform
Standing, sitting, or lying supine

Anterior or lateral to the patient.

May I touch the palm of your hand? (or point to the demonstrated area).
Hold the patientís hand so you see the palm. Palpate the prominent pisiform bone in the proximomedial corner of the hand (proximal aspect of the hypothenar eminence). Palpation may be easiest with the thumb.
The abductor digiti minimi muscle is attached to the pisiform bone. Activation of this muscle by abducting the little finger produces movement in the pisifom bone, as this bone serves as a stable base for the muscle contraction.
