Sitting or standing (or supine if necessary or convenient)
Anterior, anterolateral or lateral to the patient
Please sit (or stand).
May I touch your nose?
(If the answer is yes)
I will gently place my fingers on the soft part of the front of your nose (or demonstrate touching the area).
(If the answer is no) I will just look at your nose.
Ask the patient/client if you may touch the anterior and cartilaginous part of the nose.
If the answer is yes, gently place one finger on the cartilage on the anteroinferolateral part of the nose.
The alar cartilage is inferior to the lateral cartilage of the nose.
If the answer is no, inspect the nose visually.
The video demonstrates palpation only on the living person as cartilage is absent on a skeleton.
