Surface Palpation - Head and Neck - Other Soft Tissues
Lateral Cartilage of the Nose
Sitting or standing (or supine if necessary or convenient)

Anterior, anterolateral or lateral to the patient

Please sit (or stand). May I touch your nose?
(If the answer is yes) I will gently place my finger on the top of your nose (or demonstrate touching this area).
(If the answer is no) I will just look at your nose.
Ask the patient/client if you may touch the anterior and cartilaginous part of the nose.
If the answer is yes, gently place one finger on the lateral cartilage on the anterolateral part of the nose. The lateral cartilage is superior to the alar cartilage of the nose.
If the answer is no, inspect the nose visually.

The video demonstrates palpation only on the living person as cartilage is absent on a skeleton.
