Standing, sitting, or supine
For women, a gown over the non-examined side with the examined area exposed or a halter top is recommended.
For men, removal of the shirt is requested.

May I place my fingers on the front of your shoulder?

With the patient relaxed, gently place your fingers or thumb on the hard and rounded knob on the
front of the shoulder. The area is inferior to the lateral end of the clavicle and often is
sensitive to pressure. In people, who have muscular shoulders, this may be difficult to palpate.
