May I place my fingers on your shoulder blade? (or point to the demonstrated area)
With the patient relaxed, gently place your fingers on the scapula. Either guide or demonstrate motions and have the patient move through scapulothoracic elevation and depression, protraction (abduction) and retraction (adduction), upward (lateral) and downward (medial) rotation, and anterior tilt and return from anterior tilt (posterior tilt). Observe the joint as the motions occur.
VH - close up of the posterior skeleton showing the scapula.
