Clean and identify the muscles of the second layer of the foot. (G 6.75C;N 521;Gl 33.16B)
- Cut the tendons of the flexor digitorum brevis muscle at the level of the metatarsal-phalangeal joints. Attempt to leave the nerves and arteries intact. Reflect the flexor digitorum brevis muscle toward the calcaneus.
- Identify the tendons of the flexor digitorum longus muscle.
- Identify the lumbrical muscles arising from the individual tendons of the flexor digitorum longus muscle.
- Identify and clean the flexor accessorius (quadratus plantae) muscle attaching to the common tendon of the flexor digitorum longus muscle.
- Identify and clean the medial and lateral plantar nerves and arteries adjacent to the flexor accessorius (quadratus plantae) muscle.
