Clean and identify the muscles of the third layer of the foot. (G 6.76C;N 522;Gl 33.16C)
- Cut the tendon of the flexor digitorum longus where it emerges from deep to the lateral border of the abductor hallucis muscle. Cut the quadratus plantae muscle where it attaches to the tendon of the flexor digitorum longus muscle. Reflect the tendon of the flexor digitorum longus and lumbrical muscles toward the metatarsal-phalangeal joints.
- Identify the tendon of the flexor hallucis longus muscle. Trace the tendon to its attachment to the distal phalanx of the 1st toe.
- Identify and clean the two heads of the flexor hallucis brevis muscle.
- Identify and clean the transverse and oblique heads of the adductor hallucis muscle.
- Identify and clean the flexor digiti minimi brevis muscle.
